Dan is a Senior Regional Specialist of Environment, Health, and Safety for the Grain Operations division at The Andersons, an agriculture company based out of Ohio that “makes it easy as possible for farmers to bring grain to market.” As a safety specialist, Dan has ten locations he routinely visits for both staff training and healthy and safety compliance audits.

So my name is Dan Losek. I am the Regional Safety Specialist EHS Grain for The Andersons. They're in the ag sector. They primarily trade, process grain, store grain. And then we also have our fertilizer division. So we're making nutrients for the grain. So my role as regional EHS Specialist is to implement and oversee our safety program. So Grain has a safety program that we follow that corporate has written. I have 10 facilities so I travel just about on a daily basis here locally in Toledo Maumee area. And then I get into Michigan and Indiana. So I'm visiting sites, going out in the field, finding what we call red and yellow risks. We do risk identification, so anything on the site that, you know, might be from missing a gate on a platform, to an injury, to an environmental hazard, theft, vandalism, anything like that, that would be a safety risk to the company, its employees, or the assets. So I get into that. I get into training. So I train hands-on, classroom training, administer testing. So we're training all of our employees on fall protection, on rail safety, we deal a lot with rail, personal protective equipment, confined space entry. So we train on how to enter safely, permitting, what gear you need to take with you, monitoring. Housekeeping is a big deal in the grain industry. Combustible dust. So doing those sort of things, auditing the site, and then coming back to the supervisors with my findings, documenting it. We have many systems that we document all these things in, and keeping up on that, making sure our supervisors are keeping up on that. So, you know, risk valuation is a big part of it.
